5 Delicious Negative Calorie Diet Recipes

by dualFIT

Low calorie diet, high calorie diet…you’ve heard about those two. But what about a negative calorie diet?

All foods contain calories. Everything contains some sort of energy to provide our body with. That is the whole reason behind food! We use it for energy. Following a low calorie diet is a great way to lose weight while consuming a diet high in calories is good for gaining weight. A negative calorie diet is one that is used for weight loss.

What are negative calorie foods?

Negative calorie foods aren’t foods that contain zero calories. Like said before, all foods contain calories. The secret behind negative calorie foods is that it takes the body more energy to digest that food than the calories it contains. So you burn more calories just by eating. Sounds strange, right? Well it’s perfect!

A lot of diets tell you to cut back on eating and although this may be true with some foods, there are some foods that you should eat a lot of in order for the negative calorie diet to work.

Negative calorie foods are typically high in fiber because it takes the body longer to digest. The longer digestion takes place, the more energy your body is using, and the more fat you are burning. Does it make sense now?

Cucumber and Feta Salad

Mr. Real Food loves cucumber salad so this was a special request from him.  Although he liked my previous cucumber salad recipe, he really prefers something a little less sweet.  This cucumber salad was quick and easy to make and everyone loved it!

Cucumber and Feta Salad

Serves 4

Ingredients:

2 medium cucumbers
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
1/2 teaspoon coconut palm sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 ounces crumbled feta

Directions:

Thinly slice cucumber into circles (a mandolin slicer works perfectly for this).  In a separate bowl, combine oil, vinegar, lemon juice, dill, sugar, salt, and pepper.  Pour over cucumbers and stir to coat cucumbers.  Add in feta and gently stir.  Chill for at least 2 hours to allow cucumbers to absorb the flavors.  Serve cold.
