Despite the dangers of soda, and all the warning signs and health warnings that come along with it, it is still one of the most popular beverages among all people in the USA.

Soda is consumed by men and women of all ages. The United States consumes the most soda out of any other country in the world. We also have the most health risks. Is there a correlation?

The dangers of soda are definitely contributing to the many health problems going on in this country. More and more people are getting sick and suffering from many diseases that can be prevented with a few simple lifestyle changes, cutting out soda being one of them.

HERE ARE A FEW OF THE DANGERS OF DRINKING SODA

For starters, soda has absolutely no nutritional value. There is nothing good about drinking it. It doesn’t offer any vitamins, minerals, or nutrients to your body. It is a giant waste!

It aids in weight gain. No surprise here! Soda is full of empty calories, empty meaning they do not provide any kind of nutrition to your body. A regular can of soda contains 140 calories. Drinking one can of soda a day can lead to a one pound weight gain each month. That’s 12 pounds a year from drinking just ONE can of soda a day. Many people consume soda throughout the day. Do the math and you will see how much soda causes weight gain.

People don’t realize that soda contains so many extra calories because they are just drinking it. When eating actual foods, people are a bit more aware of their calorie consumption. But drinking drinks like soda doesn’t click in the minds of people that they are consuming an extra 140 calories with each can.

Also, the majority of the time people are consuming this sweet stuff is when they are eating some kind of unhealthy food. Whether it’s out to eat a restaurant or a fast food place, when consuming a soda, the food that’s being eaten isn’t typically healthy. The relationship that unhealthy, fatty foods and soda have is one of the greatest but most dangerous relationships.

Increases your risk of diabetes. With weight gain, diabetes is always a serious risk factor. Drinking soda does not directly cause diabetes. It is the weight gain that comes with drinking soda that puts you at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The amount of weight gain that this country is experiencing from the over consumption of soda may be the reason that the number of people suffering with type 2 diabetes has jumped from 6.6 million to 20.8 million since the 1980s. That is a significant increase.

Type 2 diabetes is a serious health risk that messes with your bodys natural ability to process sugar. People who have serious cases may have to be put on insulin to regulate their blood sugar levels. Diabetes is not something that should be taken lightly. If you are gaining weight from soda, it is time to cut back! This is one of the biggest dangers of drinking soda.

Develop metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is an increase in a ton of metabolic processes that occur in the body. During metabolic syndrome, you will notice an increase in your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and insulin resistance. Each of these processes must stay regulated to keep your body healthy. When they are increased, your body goes into overdrive and cannot process things the way it is supposed to. Consuming too much soda puts you at risk for developing metabolic syndrome, or at least one of the three diseases associated with it.

It causes dehydration. You may be wondering how this makes sense. Most people drink soda when they are thirsty. Well, believe it or not, if you find yourself drinking more soda because you just can’t quench your thirst, try having some water instead and see the difference! The two main ingredients in soda, caffeine and sugar, make this drink a diuretic. A diuretic is something that increases the production of urine and urine output. The more soda you drink, the more you use the bathroom, the thirstier you get. After a while, this could lead to dehydration and if not taken care of, can become pretty serious.

After reading all of the dangers of soda, you may be thinking to yourself, “So why do so many people still drink it?” Well, it’s sugary and tasty, it’s convenient, and some people think that they have their health under control despite these dangers. If you are an avid soda drinker, begin cutting down by replacing one soda with water. You will start to feel better and you’ll notice many changes in the way your body looks and feels!
